The 80/20 Rule of Social Media Marketing…

Posted: January 4, 2010 in Uncategorized

I am sure by now you have heard of the 80/20 Rule.  It’s a theory that was developed by Alfredo Pareto in 1906 for explaining the distribution of wealth in Italy.  He determined that 80% of the wealth was held by 20% of the people.  Today it seems you can apply the 80/20 rule to just about everything…

80% of income comes from 20% of customers

80% of problems come from 20% of employees

80% of productivity comes from the top 20% of employees

Then there is the Big One – 80% of your results comes from 20% off your efforts. This is a good rule form most activities….however, there are exceptions to every rule!

Social Media Marketing is that Exception…where 80% of your effort will only deliver a 20% return.

With Social Media you have to give 100% in your efforts to make it successful, and if you do, it will provide you with an embarrassment of clients, traffic and success.
